I really like how the church is responding to the new Broadway show. This is their official statement:
The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening, but the Book of Mormon as a volume of scripture will change people's lives forever by bringing them closer to Christ.
Now I heard that they are going to take advantage of the publicity and have a big advertising blitz in Times Square and on the subways and taxis in New York. What a great idea. I also liked these commentaries from the NY Times and Washington Post that came about because of the play. The first one I thought could have been used in our Relief Society lesson last week on Obedience: Creed or Chaos . In the next one she tells us about how she thinks Mormons should be viewed in Mormons and Politics.
With the thought that no publicity is bad publicity it has been a great season for the LDS. Here are links to some magazines that have had articles about us in the past couple of weeks. While I wish they wouldn't treat lightly some of the things that are sacred to me, overall I think they are pretty positive .Newsweek Financial Times.
When the church had their pavilions at the old World's Fair in New York City they got lots of interest. Maybe all this will get some people who had never heard of the church to want to investigate it further or at least people might learn that we are just trying to be good neighbors and citizens (read the last 2 paragraphs of Mormon and Politics).
